Removal of
BlackBerry
Policy
Free Step by
Step Directions
Start by wiping
the device:
If you
know the
password:
First
- backup any
data that
you want off
of the
device (use
backup
manager). To
be safe,
remove all
removable
media (SD
memory
cards) from
the device).
Second
Options -
Security
Options -
General
Settings -
click the
wheel and
select "Wipe
Handheld" -
follow the
verification
instructions
on screen.
If you
don't know
the
password:
You won't be
able to
backup any
data if you
don't know
the old
password.
You'll need
to force the
unit to wipe
itself by
attempting
to login
incorrectly
10 times.
Login with
any dummy
passwords
for as long
as it takes
taking care
to enter the
word
"blackberry"
for the two
or three
times that
the unit
tries to
confirm it
isn't wiping
your
valuable
data just
because your
18month old
is
practicing
her typing.
Regardless
of which way
you chose it
will take a
few minutes.
When the
device
resets and
asks you for
a new
password DO
NOT DO
ANYTHING.
Just leave
it alone.
... after
wiping the
device
completely:
On your home PC
or laptop
(don't do this
at work or you
may just
reconnect
straight to your
BES)
- Ensure
the
Blackberry
Desktop
Manager is
installed
using
Blackberry
Internet
Service, and
not
Blackberry
Enterprise
Server. If
you are
unsure, it
would
probably be
a good idea
to uninstall
the Desktop
Manager and
start again.
If you don't
have the
Software or
CD it can be
downloaded
downloaded
from your
cellular
provider
Tmobile
or
ATT
directly.
- Download
these two
files -
policy.bin
and
policy.reg
to the root
of your C:\
drive. (Why
the root -
because
that's the
directory
that I typed
into
policy.reg)
- Close
the Desktop
Manager if
it is open.
- Within
Windows
click
Start-Run
and type in
c:\policy.reg
and say YES
to confirm
importing
into the
registry.
This tells
the
Blackberry
desktop
manager to
force down
the new
policy.bin
the next
time a
virgin
(wiped)
handheld is
connected.
- Run
Blackberry
desktop
manager.
-
Reconnect
the device
via USB. Say
"Yes" to any
warnings on
the desktop
and
handheld.
- Voila -
that's it.
You should
be able to
confirm that
the policy
is gone by
going into
Options -
Security
Options -
General -
and about
half way
down you can
just make
sure you
don't see
any
reference to
your old
corporate IT
Policy.
- Optional - looking to remove the SIM lock from your blackberry?
Now you
should be able
to install any
apps or games like Texas Holdem or
bluetooth
devices or
whatever your
policy was
previously
preventing you
from doing. Just
make sure you
get everything
you want before
you reconnect to
your network.
